Galesburg Rotary Club

The Galesburg Rotary Club's 53nd Travelogue Series for 2007-2008.

This season will mark Fifty-Three Years of Galesburg Rotary Travelogues.

We thought it appropriate to give you a small capsulated.... History of Our Club's Travelogue Series

In the spring of 1955, the Galesburg Rotary Club was seeking a "fund raising activity' to assist in the support of local charities and youth organizations looking for financial help or support.

Information about a travel and adventure series or Travelogue, was debated by a committee of eight club members, before the idea was presented to the Club at large. After reviewing the details, the Club agreed that the Travelogue project idea was worthy of support and planning started for the first Galesburg Rotary Travelogue Program which was held on November 9th of 1955, at the Lombard Auditorium.

The first Travelogue tickets were sold for $5.00 each and included six travel shows. Dean Lindstrom, who was then President of the Galesburg Noon Rotary Club, was asked to introduce the Travelogue speakers for the first year. During the subsequent years, the Travelogue committees continued to ask Dean to do the introductions, which he did each year for 25 years. In the 1980's, Dean's son Dick took over the responsibility of introducing the speakers.

The first Travelogue year, the ticket sales resulted in a profit of $768.00. Over the years, Travelogue ticket sales has produced over $300,000 which our club has used to support the various projects and groups in our community.

The benefits from the Travelogue series are many. First, those who purchase the tickets receive an outstanding value in travel entertainment. Various groups and organizations receive direct support from the Galesburg Noon Rotary Club, whether it be in the form of book distributions as a part of the RIF program, scholarships, youth activities or other capital support to youth organizations, projects and programs. Our Club is proud of the fact that all of the profits from the Galesburg Noon Rotary Club's Travelogue series have gone back into our own community area, providing help to groups and organizations that might otherwise not be available.... while at the same time, providing an excellent source of fine affordable entertainment that is available to everyone.

We thank all of those who have supported our effort and traveled with us for the last 50+ years.
